The evolution of underwear

The London Fashion and Textile Museum is getting in the festival mood in July with a two-night event of live entertainment as part of the London Bridge Festival including a look at the history of underwear.

Kicking off on 24 July the event will take place within the museum’s current exhibition, Undercover: The Evolution of Underwear, which will form the backdrop to two evenings of music, dance and fashion designed by creative events company ‘I Think I’m Here Darling Where Are You?’

The Undercover exhibition traces the evolution of underwear from health garment to shape definer and fashion must-have as women’s role in society has changed. Garments on display include the first Merry Widow corset
inspired by Lana Turner in the film of the same name; burlesque dancer Immodesty Blaize’s corset; a dress made from bras and briefs by designers Vin & Omi and a Swarovski crystal-encrusted bra.
