Fashion Sales Strong For February

The British Retail Consortium has reported UK retail sales growth of 2.2% on a like-for-like basis in February 2010.

Lingerie sales benefited from a Valentine's Day surge and department stores reported a better month in February compared with January, when bad weather across the country substantially reduced footfall. Internet and mail order sales also increased.

However, BRC director general Stephen Robertson has urged caution: "Despite appearances, these results are not that strong. The growth is compared with weak figures a year ago when February saw the worst of last winter’s weather and this February’s performance was helped by sales postponed from January."
